How do I install a StudyForge Course in Schoology?

Here are all the steps you need to get your StudyForge course up and running in Schoology today. Before you start, make sure you have your StudyForge Course file saved and ready to import.

Part 1: Installing a Course in Schoology

Step 1

 1. Log in to your Schoology account and click the Resources button.

Step 2

1. Click the dropdown arrow .

2. Click Import.

Step 3

In the Import Collection Box:

1. Click Common Cartridge (IMSCC or ZIP).

2. Click New collection and Type the name of the course you're importing (ie: StudyForge Calculus).

3. Click Next.

4. Click on the Attach File and select the StudyForge course file that would've been emailed to you.

5. Once you see the StudyForge file, click Next.

6. Click Skip & Import.

Step 4

1. Click Transfer History.

Step 5

1. Wait until the transfer status goes from Pending to Complete. You may have to click the refresh button periodically on your browser to speed this up. (Wait times may differ                dramatically).

2. Click the Courses tab.

Step 6

1. On the Courses page, click Create a Course.

Step 7

1-4. Fill in the boxes with the appropriate information for your school and course.

5. Select the appropriate grading period for your course.

6. Click Create.

Step 8

You are now in your StudyForge course.

1. Click the Add Materials dropdown arrow.

2. Click Import from Resources.

Step 9

1. Check the Title box.

2. Click Import.

3. Click Import.

After clicking Import, your screen will default here with the message stating that the import is taking place.

Periodically click the browser refresh button until you see the imported materials.

CAUTION:  In order for your students not to view any Teacher material or Answer keys, you must unpublish each link individually.

Step 10

1. Click the dropdown arrow to the left of each folder in the All Materials list.

    (This will bring up all the course links.)

2. Click the Settings icon beside any links that say For Teacher: or Answer Keys.

3. Click Unpublish.

4. Click Unpublish.

Part 2: Adding StudyForge as an External Tool.

Note: If you are using Schoology Basic (Free Version) follow the directions below. However, if your school is using Schoology Enterprise (Paid Version) we recommend installing StudyForge as an external tool on the site level using the instructions found here.

Schoology Basic Users

Step 1

1. Click on Courses in the top menu bar.

2. Click on the course where you would like to add StudyForge as an external tool.

Step 2

1. Click on Course Options.

2. Click on External Tool Providers

Step 3

1. Click on the Add External Tool Provider button.

Step 4

1. Type StudyForge in the Tool Name: box.

2. Enter the Consumer Key that was emailed to you.

    Enter the Secret that was emailed to you.

3. Select Send Name and Email/Username of the user who launches the tool in the Privacy dropdown arrow.

4. Select Manual in the Configuration Type: dropdown arrow.

     Select Domain in the Match by: dropdown arrow.

5. Type tool.studyforge.net in the Domain/URL box.

6. Click Submit.

Schoology Enterprise Users

Step 1

1. Click the Tools tab on the homepage taskbar.

2. Click School Management.

Step 2

1. Click Integration.

2. Click the External Tools tab.

3. Click Add External Tool Provider.

Step 3

1. Type StudyForge in the Tool Name: box.

2. Enter the Consumer Key that was emailed to you.

    Enter the Secret that was emailed to you.

3. Select Send Name and Email/Username of the user who launches the tool in the Privacy        dropdown arrow.

4. Select Manual in the Configuration Type: dropdown arrow.

     Select Domain in the Match by: dropdown arrow.

5. Type tool.studyforge.net in the Domain/URL box.

6. Click Submit.

Part 3: Enabling Grading

Important: If you would like to enable grading for tests and quizzes in StudyForge you will need to follow these instructions.

Navigate to the StudyForge course in which you would like to enable grading.

1. Click the dropdown arrow to the left of each folder in the All Materials list.

    (This will bring up all the course links.)

2. Click the Settings icon beside any links that contain the words Test or Quiz.

3. Click Edit.

1. Make sure that the Consumer Key and Shared Secret sections remain blank. 

2. Click on the box beside Enable Grading.

3. Leave Points at 100.

4. Choose or create a Category.

5. Choose Numeric for Scale.

6. Click Save Changes.

Important: You need to complete all of the instructions in Part 3 for every link in every folder that is a Quiz or Test in order to have grading work for the entire course.
